Will custom fit clubs help me hit the ball further?

This can often be the case for multiple reasons, read on to find out more.

IMPROVED DISTANCE

How custom fitting adds distance

Distance is not just about swing speed. It is about how efficiently your swing speed is turned into ball speed on the right ball flight, and that is exactly what a fitting optimises:

  • Launch and spin. This is the big one. Too low a launch or too much spin leaves carry on the table. Matching your launch and spin to your swing is where most distance is found, optimising flight efficiency.
  • The shaft. The right weight and balance profile help you deliver the club more efficiently and consistently. It will not always add raw speed, but a better strike turns more of your speed into distance.
  • Loft. The correct loft gets you closer to your optimal launch window, particularly off the tee.
  • Centre strike. Clubs of the right length and lie, with the right head, help you find the middle of the face more often, and centre strikes travel furthest.
  • Gapping. Consistent distances through the set mean you carry the right number with the right club, which protects scoring as much as raw yards.
IMPROVED DISTANCE

How much distance can you realistically gain?

This is where we stay honest. Gains vary a lot from golfer to golfer. If your current clubs are a long way from your ideal set up then the jump can be significant. If you are already reasonably well fit, the gain may be a few yards plus a tighter, more reliable dispersion.

A well-fit driver commonly adds several yards of distance, and sometimes more, but we would rather set a realistic expectation than promise a number we cannot stand behind. On TrackMan you will see your own before and after, so the gain is measured, not claimed.

IMPROVED DISTANCE

Distance is not just about the driver

It is easy to focus on the driver, but distance control through the set matters just as much. A fitting optimises launch and spin in your irons as well and makes sure your lofts and lies are consistent, so your distances are even and predictable. Knowing exactly how far each club carries is often worth more shots than a few extra yards off the tee.

IMPROVED DISTANCE

The honest part

Raw swing speed comes from your swing and your physical fitness, not just from a club. What a fitting does is make sure you are not wasting the speed you have through poor launch, excess spin or off-centre strikes. We only recommend a change when the data shows it improves your carry or consistency, and we will tell you if your current setup is already close to optimal.

Getting the most from your fitting

If adding distance is your goal, a driver fitting is usually the best place to start, with a full bag fitting if you want consistent gapping across every club.

FAQs

Can a fitting help if I have a slow swing speed?

Yes. Golfers with slower swing speeds can gain just as much as higher speed players because the right loft, a lighter shaft and an easier-launching head help get the ball airborne and carrying further. A fitting makes the most of the speed you already have.

Is it loft or shaft that adds distance?

Both play a part. Loft has a direct effect on launch and spin, which drives distance, while the shaft influences how efficiently and consistently you deliver the club. A fitting balances the two for your swing rather than treating either in isolation.

Will a fitting help me hit my irons further?

It can, by optimising launch and spin and making sure your lofts and lies are correct and consistent through the set. The bigger benefit with irons is usually consistent, predictable distances, so your gaps are even and you can trust each club.

Does a custom shaft increase swing speed?

A shaft does not magically add swing speed, but the right weight and balance can help you deliver the club more efficiently and consistently, which can lift ball speed and optimise flight and distance. The gain mainly comes from a better, more repeatable strike rather than from the shaft alone.

How many yards can a driver fitting add?

It varies widely. Some golfers gain only a few yards, while those who are badly fit to begin with can gain considerably more once launch and spin are optimised. Just as important is a tighter dispersion, which means more drives finding the fairway.

Do custom fit clubs add distance?

Often, yes. Custom-fit clubs add distance mainly by optimising your strike and improving your launch angle and spin rate so more of your swing speed transfers to the ball. Gains vary by golfer. Those whose current clubs are poorly matched tend to see the most, while better-fit golfers gain through improved consistency.
