How much does a custom golf club fitting cost in the UK?

Prices very much vary for fittings and this can depend on multiple factors, find out more and considerations you should take before booking.

What you are paying for?

There are two separate costs to understand, the first is the fitting fee. This pays for the fitter’s time, the launch monitor analysis of your swing and the recommendation you walk away with. The second is the cost of any clubs, shafts or grips you decide to buy afterwards.

These are almost always priced separately. A fitting fee does not include the clubs. At Precision Golf, the published fees cover the fitting session itself, and the price of any recommended clubs or components is provided during your appointment. Keeping the two apart matters, because a good fitting will sometimes show that you do not need a full new set at all.

Type of fittingTypical UK costWhat you get

What affects the cost of custom fit clubs?

If you go ahead with new equipment, the final cost depends on a few things:

  • The club heads: There are variables in cost of heads brand to brand and model to model with some lower volume, niche brands costing more
  • The shafts: This is the biggest variable. Stock shafts add little, but premium aftermarket shafts can add £100 to £400 per club or in some instances more.
  • The grips: A small cost, but worth getting right for feel and consistency.
  • The build: Hand-built clubs, assembled and checked to tight tolerances, sit above factory built sets.
  • How much you replace: You may only need to change part of your set, not all of it.

We never recommend a change unless it gives you a genuine improvement over your current setup and you can change a single club or part of the bag rather than just the whole set, so the figure you are quoted reflects what will actually help your game.

Are free golf club fittings worth it?

Free fittings have their place. If you have already decided on a brand, a free session at a retailer or a manufacturer demo day can dial in the right specifications within that range. The trade-off is choice. These sessions are usually shorter, tied to one manufacturer, and geared towards a sale.

A paid independent fitting works differently. Because we are brand agnostic and our fitters earn no commission, the only goal is finding the combination that performs best for you. For many golfers, especially mid and higher handicappers, that wider choice is where the real gains are found.

Is a custom fitting worth the cost?

For most golfers, yes. The right clubs improve consistency, give you more confidence over the ball and stop you compensating for equipment that does not suit your swing. A fitting also protects you from a far more expensive mistake: buying the wrong clubs off the shelf and replacing them a year later.

We cover this in more detail, broken down by handicap, in our guide to whether custom-fit clubs are worth it.

FAQs

Do I get the golf fitting fee back if I buy clubs?

This varies by fitter. Some retailers credit the fitting fee against a purchase. Others, including specialist independents, treat the fitting as a separate professional service with its own value. At Precision Golf the fitting fee covers the session, so it is worth checking what is included before you book.

Why do independent fittings cost more than free ones?

Independent specialists charge for the fitting because it is a standalone expert service, not a sales appointment. Sessions are longer, fitters at Precision Golf are not paid commission (although this is not always the case at other companies), and you can test hundreds of head and shaft combinations across every brand. You are paying for unbiased advice and the widest possible choice, not for the clubs themselves.

How much should I budget for a full set of custom-fit clubs?

As a guide, a full set of custom-fit clubs in the UK can range from around £2,500 to £4,500 or more, depending on the brands, the shafts you choose and how many clubs you replace. Premium shafts alone can add £100 to £400 per club, occasionally more. A fitting often shows that you only need to change part of your set, which can keep the cost down.

Are free golf club fittings any good?

Free fittings, usually offered by retailers or at manufacturer demo days, can be useful if you have already settled on one brand. They tend to be shorter and limited to that brand’s range. A paid independent fitting costs more but is brand agnostic, longer and built around finding the best result for your swing rather than selling one manufacturer’s clubs.

How much does a full bag golf club fitting cost in the UK?

A full bag fitting in the UK typically costs between £80 and £350, depending on the fitter. At Precision Golf, a full bag fitting is £345 and runs for around three and a half hours. The fee covers the fitting session itself. The cost of any new clubs or components is quoted separately.

Does the golf fitting fee include the clubs?

No. In almost all cases the fitting fee and the clubs are separate costs. The fee pays for the fitter’s time, the launch monitor analysis and the recommendation. If you decide to go ahead, the price of the clubs, shafts or grips is quoted on top. At Precision Golf, club and shaft prices are provided during your fitting.
