Weighting to hole
more putts?

Matching the weight & balance of your putter to your
individual style of putting will inevitably help you to better
control pace and ultimately hole more putts (provided you picked
the correct line of course!).
With many putter manufacturers offering various weighting
options, how do you know which one is correct for you? The first
thing you need to do is select the correct length for your set-up
& posture. Once this has been established, whether through
matching an existing fitted putter or visiting a putter custom
fitter, you will be in a much better position to choose the
correct weight setting.
What I have found over the years of coaching putting and fitting
putters, is that players with a slower smoother tempo generally
benefit from feeling the putter head more i.e. heavier head, whilst
faster swingers benefit from a lighter head weight. This being
said, there are other factors to take in to account such as the
speed of greens, type of putter and what feels good to you. Click

& rhythm and its affect on your performance.
The old adage of "vary the weight depending on the green speed"
isn't wholly true, if you do this, you may be upsetting your
overall feel and subsequent putting performance. Therefore, choose
the weight that is right for you, then you can learn to putt
effectively on varying speed greens!
Putter manufacturers do help with this, with many now offering
heavier head weights for shorter length putters. For example, Scotty Cameron has specific
weight settings for 35" (340g), 34" (350g) and 33" (360g)
putters.
At our putting studio, we have the technology to enable you to
try these various weights in varying lengths also using our "Tour
Weight Key" (see main image). No-one else offers the entire Scotty
Cameron range with the ability to test heavier or lighter weights
in the same head! We can therefore play around with the
weighting to suit your feel and style of putting.
It's an important step in establishing the correct weight
setting of the putter by trying various weights to ascertain what
feels and works well with your stroke.
For this reason, we mainly stock putters that have the ability
to alter the weight settings therefore making it a truly bespoke putter custom
fitting service. For putters that do not offer this, we attempt
to stock different weighted heads according to the manufacturers
standard weight settings for length.
If none of the above can be achieved, then we are now able to
offer "putter porting"
depending on the style of putter being used. This process can be
applied to existing putters as well as new builds however, not all
models can be catered for so please click here for more information
on "Putter
Porting".
